LSE Austrian Alumni Event
Tuesday 31 March 2009

About 20 LSE Alumni in Austria were invited to an exclusive visit to the Austrian parliament, hosted by Ms Barbara Prammer, President of the Austrian National Council.

The Alumni and Ms Prammer had a lively discussion about issues such as public interest in politics, transparency of the parliament's dealings, its presence online, as well as the participation of the right-wing parties in parliament. As a thank-you gift, Prammer received the LSE 100-year anniversary book by the former LSE director, Lord Ralf Dahrendorf which was signed by the current LSE director, Howard Davies. One honourable guest was Prof. Norbert Leser, LSE Alumnus of 1958 and first full professor of political science in Austria.

After the discussion, the Alumni had a special guided tour through the rooms, where Austrian parliamentarianism is taking place. In this way, we were given an inside view into many current debates and we were told interesting tales of past times, dating back to the Austrian monarchy. The evening ended with a nice get together in a nearby restaurant.

More photos of the event are available on the Parliament website.
