The panel for a new tribunal for the resolution of disputes in global financial markets includes a number of LSE alumni and is chaired by Professor Jeffrey Golden (General Course 1971, PhD International Relations 1975), visiting Professor of Law at LSE, and Chair of the LSE Alumni Association.
On 16 January 2012 a new tribunal for the resolution of disputes in the global financial markets was launched in the Hague. The tribunal will be overseen by a Panel of Recognised International Market Experts in Finance (P.R.I.M.E). Chaired by Professor Golden, the panel’s financial experts include Professor of Law at LSE Julia Black, visiting Professor Roger McCormick, former Pro-Director and faculty member Professor Sarah Worthington, Tim Frost (BSc Government 1987), Arthur Hahn (General Course 1965), Professor Francisco Orrego-Vicuna (MPhil Law 1985) and Kimberley Summe (MSc International Relations 1991).
Commenting on the need for a dispute resolution mechanism for global financial markets, Professor Golden said "The P.R.I.M.E Finance project emerged against the backdrop of financial market crisis and legal uncertainty. The amounts at stake are staggering, the legal and contractual issues are complicated, and the volume of complex product cases is increasing." He added that national courts and ad hoc arbitration have not yet been able to build a unified, authoritative body of law. |
