Ambrosine Hurt When the possibility occurred in 1973 to obtain W.H. Smith's warehouse adjacent to the School in which to establish LSE's Library, the Library Appeal was set up and Ambrosine Hurt was appointed secretary of the Appeal Committee. Once the necessary funds had been obtained under Lord Robbins's chairmanship, Ambrosine was available to move into the External Relations and Appeals Office, which Lord Dahrendorf set up to promote links with alumni and donors. She was the School's first alumnus officer and involved in developing relations with alumni through the first computerised register, correspondence with and events for alumni and development of overseas groups of friends. Many alumni of the 1970s will remember her warmly. Jennifer Pinney |
