The press this week indicates that, if all goes to plan, LSE could have use of a new accommodation development agreed this week by Southwark Council designed by Conran & Partners. The development would comprise of two multi-storey buildings, linked by a walkway, the accommodation would increase accommodation provided through the accommodations department at LSE by 127 studios for postgraduate students and 544 student rooms with ensuite shower rooms. The buildings would boast unrivalled views of the Tate Modern and St Pauls, a gym, 15 disabled parking spaces and 426 cycle spaces. Building is due to start next summer with completion expected in May 2012. A LSE spokesperson said: 'LSE is committed to expanding residential provision for our students. We are discussing with the developers the possibility of building a new student residence on the Great Suffolk Street site. However it is only one of the options we are looking at and no agreements have been reached.' This goes alongside current refurbishment work to Rosebery Hall to replace the windows with double glazing, work started last Monday and will be completed by March 2010.
