Jude Chisom Erondu has been given a
Rising Star Award in Financial Planning. Jude served as a student elected member of the Court of Governors and also participated in the Programme for African Leadership (PfAL). He currently works in finance with a focus on Impact Investing, helping clients align their investment portfolios with their values. Jude is also involved in a working group put together by PfAL tasked to find out ways LSE could engage more with the continent of Africa.
Matt Kuppers has been nominated as Scientific Expert with the Research Executive Agency of the European Commission. Matt will provide advice and analysis to the Agency for projects related to Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. Matt will also help with grant agreements, procurement contracts and the implementation of EU programmes.
Palak Sharma has been given the
Princess Diana Award for going above and beyond to create positive and sustainable change. Palak received the award for her work in sustainability through her NGO Green Governance Initiative which aims to ensure that India's 2030 sustainable development goals are met. Palak is also working to improve sanitation and to solve period poverty in India.
Alex Sangha has produced a new film called
Emergence: Out of the Shadows. The film explores the stories gay and lesbian people growing up in South Asian families. Alex hopes that the film will inspire people and communities who are struggling with acceptance.
Michael Donnelly has received a commendation from New York State's Governor, Andrew Cuomo for his work with
COVIDoutlook, which has provided data and analysis on the COVID-19 outbreak in the US since summer 2020. Andrew Cuomo has found the work of Michael and his COVIDoutlook colleagues "invaluable to helping New York address one of the biggest public health crises in our history."

Forbes 30 under 30 Asia list for his achievements in finance. Vardhan is leading the expansion of Remitly, an online money transfer business, in Asia. His research on technology and it's impact on society was also shortlisted in 2019 for the Financial Times and McKinsey's 2019 Bracken Bower Prize.
Hamza Jawaid has been recognised in the
Forbes 30 under 30 Asia list for his co-founding of Bazaar. Bazaar is a B2B e-commerce platform which connects small B2C businesses and companies with suppliers. Bazaar operates through an app and aims to empower small businesses in Pakistan.
Bilal Bin Saqib has been given a Points of Light Award from Prime Minister Boris Johnson for his work in providing meals to keyworkers and people in need over the COVID-19 pandemic. In March 2020, Bilal co-founded One Million Meals with the aim of helping NHS workers during the first lockdown. Today One Million Meals has been supported by sports stars David Beckham and Amir Khan and has provided over 100,000 meals.
Ed Ratushny has been made an Honorary Doctor of Laws by the University of Saskatchewan, the university where Ed earned his bachelors degree in 1964 and his law degree in 1965. Following his studies in Saskatchewan, Ed studied law at LSE, graduating in 1968. Ed worked as a first special advisor on judicial affairs to the Minister of Justice of Canada in 1973, and was a law professor at the University of Ottowa from 1976-2009.
Menna Rawlings has been made the new UK Ambassador to France. Menna has worked in foreign affairs since graduating from LSE with her first job being with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In the noughties, Menna went onto work for the Permanent Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, and then as Deputy High Commissioner to Ghana. Most recently, she has been British High Commissioner to Australia and Director General of Economic and Global Issues at the Foreign and Commonwealth office.
After graduation Jeffrey Dvorkin returned to Canada to work as a journalist for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1991, he was named Managing Editor and Chief Journalist for CBC Radio. In 1997, Jeffrey became VP of News and Information at NPR (National Public Radio) in Washington, DC. Jeffrey returned to Canada in 2008 as director of the journalism program at the University of Toronto until my retirement from teaching in 2020. Jeffrey's textbook,

Patrick Randolph founded QueueDr in 2013 in order to help healthcare providers reduce appointment candellations. QueueDr uses an AI Schedule Management software in order to identify cancellations and fill the gaps by pulling forward future patient appointments. QueueDr has now been acquired by Phreesia, another software provider for the healthcare industry.
Jon Lo, along with his co-founder Josephine Laing, has been listed in
Forbes' 30 under 30 social impact list for 2021. Jon and Josephine launched
Dare to Care Packages, which has provided supplies for vulnerable people during the COVID-19. The initiative received support from LSE generate, Santander and Ada Ventures.
Dr Lorena de Vita has been selected as a Landecker Lecturer. Lorena will receive support from the Alfred Landecker Foundation for her project Holocaust Diplomacy: The Global Politics of Memory and Forgetting (2021-2026) which will explore the role of diplomats, museum curators and international organisations have played in Holocaust memory making.
Mila Turajlić has been selected as a TED Fellow as a result of to her work in bringing historic political experiences into public awareness through bringing to light archival footage. Since graduating, Mila has created award-winning documentary films such as Cinema Komunisto and has also become a Fellow at Columbia University's Institute of Ideas and Imagination. As a TED Fellow, Mila will be exploring archival content from the liberation movements of 1960s and 1970s Africa.
Masana Ndinga Kanga has been named as one of
Apolitical's 100 most influential people in Gender Policy for 2021. Masana is a Crisis Response Fund Lead for CIVICUS, a non-profit organisation which seeks to strengthen citizen action worldwide. Masana has also produced a documentary on race, class and gender in South Africa, and has written about feminism and and parenting.
Thomas Barton has founded the start-up
Polis Analysis, which provides news analysis free of ads and partisan bias. In just one year, Thomas' team has grown to 44 analysts and researchers and he is now looking at developing a further paid service.
Bora Muzhaqi is a Socialist Party of Albania candidate for the city of Tirana in this year's parliamentary elections. Since graduating, Bora has worked in finance, working with PwC and EBRD. With EBRD, she as worked as an advisor to the Minister of State for Protection of Entrepreneurship
Stephen Alambritis was awarded the honour of MBE in 2020 for his contribution to local government following his 10 year tenure as Council Leader in Merton, South London. Although Stephen has recently stepped down from his leadership position, he will continue to represent his ward as a backbench counsellor.
Brian Mounce has been featured as one of the top 20 young leaders in Memphis Tennessee. In addition to his studies at LSE, Brian also has an undergraduate degree from Tel Aviv University and a doctorate in law from Tulane University. Brian is now a Professor at Christian Brothers University where he teaches history and politics.
Marion Labouré has been awarded the
First Rising Star Award in Banking and Finance. Marion works in payment, digital currencies and fintech with the Deutsche Bank Thematic Research team. She also lectures finance and economics at Harvard University and Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Phillip Walter Wellman
has a photograph on show at the National Portrait Gallery as part of its annual Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition. Since graduating LSE, Phillip has been working in Afghanistan as a photographer and reporter for Stars and Stripes, a newspaper that provides independent news for the U.S military.
Valentino Shal has been appointed by Prime Minister of Belize to serve as CEO in the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government. Since graduating from LSE, Valentino has been a project manager for the Peace Corps Belize and a consultant with Sayan Consulting and the praxi5 Advisory Group.
Alexander Limpert is the CEO of a company called
GuestReady, which Alexander founded in 2016. GuestReady manages AirBnB properties for landlords across Europe, the Middle East and Asia and has raised 1.7 million euros from over 550 investors this year.
John Groarke is a Career Minister in the United States Foreign Service and is currently the acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the US embassy in South Africa. His work focuses on the health crises facing the region, such as HIV/AIDS and COVID-19, by providing equipment, training, personnel, and help with public health messaging. Prior to his current position, John worked as a Southern Africa Mission Director for the U.S. Agency for International Development.
India Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility (India CSR) has made Professor Colin Coulson-Thomas their Goodwill Ambassador for Sustainability. Colin has worked in management and corporate transformation as an academic, author, advisor and chairman. He is President of the Institute of Management Services and is a Visiting Professor with the University of Lincoln.

Matt Kuppers has joined the

Matt's responsibilities will include providing expertise and analysis regarding the success of SME growth markets and identifying areas where further action may be needed.
Jeffrey Golden has won the inaugural Lifetime Contributor - Private Practice Award at the Legal Innovation Awards 2020 in London. Jeffrey is currently Joint Head of Chambers with 3 Hare Court and won the award for his work in a number of different areas, such as innovative billing, reform and sustainable development and financial market documentation.
Serena Kern has been announced as the winner of the business category of the
Asian Women of Achievement Awards 2020. Serena is the Deputy Head of Global Trade Strategy at the Bank of England, where she has worked since 2016. Prior to this Serena worked for the law form Slaughter and May and as a research assistant with LSE. In addition to her work, she is also a Governor at the Elizabeth-Garrett Anderson School.
Íñigo Fernández has been featured in Mexico's number one business magazine, Expansion, as one of the 30 people in their 30's to watch. Íñigo, who is currently Head of Public Policy in the North Cone Region for Facebook, was chosen due to his professional achievements and for coordinating Facebook's response to the COVID-19 virus in Mexico.

Nour Fassa has launched her own line of jewellery as part of her family's high end jewellery enterprise. Nour by Jahan expresses
her passion for jewellery and gemstones, which she has had since childhood. Nour wants her jewellery to reveal each person’s unique radiance and bring a fresh contemporary femininity to high end jewellery. Nour graduated from LSE in 2018 at the age of only 20 years old.
Jennifer Voigt Kaplan has received a Christopher Award for her children's book
Crushing the Red Flowers. The Christopher Awards aim to celebrate books that "affirm the highest values of the human spirit". Jennifer's book tells the story of two young boys, one German and one Jewish, whose lives become connected during the summer of 1938.
Sean Lew and Can Çeliktemur have been promoted to the role of principal at Cornerstone Research, a leading provider of economic and financial consulting. Sean specialises in regulatory enforcement and litigation involving complex financial economics and data issues while Can analyses issues related to merger control, abuse of dominance, and cartel follow-on damages, as well as market investigations.
Inqilab Shahbazov is working as a chief consultant at the Public Opinion Survey Department of the Social Research Centre , which is the largest think-tank in Azerbaijan. Ingilab managed the first victimisation survey in Azerbaijan and he is also the first Azerbaijani scholar to have published research on a criminological subject pertaining to Azerbaijan's criminal justice system.
For the second time, Marion Labouré has been awarded the First Prize of the US Society of Actuaries in recognition of her Fintech research. Marion works for the Deutsche Bank Thematic Research Team, focusing on payment, digital currencies and Fintech, and she also as lectures on finance at Harvard University and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Sophie Fraser has launched
Promico, a project offering pro bono strategic consulting services to small, minority-owned businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19. The Promico team provide advice in business management, marketing strategies and financial solutions. Prior to setting up Promico, Sophie had graduated from Tulane University with a BA in Political Economy and French.
Aatif Baskanderi has been awarded the Queen's Commonwealth Points of Light Award for his volunteering and advocacy around interfaith understanding. Aatif grew up in Newfoundland and felt accepted by the community despite differences in culture and faith. His story is now part of the Canadian school curriculum and was also featured in the documentary
Salaam B'y.
Jack Curtis and his business partner Jacques Sheehan, have co-founded
Carbon Jacked, an environmental start-up that helps individuals and businesses take action on climate change through carbon offsetting and education. Cole Armstrong has founded the
2020 Vision Project, which seeks to find out how New Zealand has changed as a result of the pandemic The project will chart the stories of 30 different New Zealanders over the course of the lockdown and as they step back into society. This is a longitudinal study, using in-depth interviews with the same group of people over time.
Alec Price has recently launched
Mélange, a drinks company that makes Premium Alcoholic Sodas in a pre-bottled format. He co-founded the company with a lifelong friend as they felt most alcoholic sodas were too chemical in appearance and sugary in taste. Alec intends to provide a refreshing alternative that focuses on high quality ingredients and low sugar content.

Sacha Nasan has co-founded Blindlee, a new dating app which allows people to interact with each other using blurred video. The idea behind the new app is to create a safer and more transparent online dating environment. Sacha has a history of building start-ups and has founded or worked with many new entrepreneurial businesses.
Mickey Mayhew has been nominated for the Positive Role Model prize at the National Diversity Awards 2020. As a child, Mickey was bullied and excluded from school due to peers and educators who did not understand him. Now a novelist, historian, and researcher with London South Bank University, Dr Mickey Mayhew is a symbol of what people with Autism can do.
Gerard Dericks has started the
World Scholars Academy, which is an online and residential summer school teaching economics and business at the Asia Pacific International School, Hawaii. Gerard is also a senior lecturer in real estate economics and finance at Oxford Brookes University.
Maxime Le Guillou was made a juror for the Students' Cinema Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. The prize went to Mati Diop's Atlantics, making Mati Diop the first woman of colour to win one of Cannes' top prizes in 2019. Maxime was then chosen out of the 998 student jurors to represent their choice on France Culture's live morning show.
Mike Woods and his wife Lucie run riad hotels in Marrakech. This year they had been planning to host a storytelling cafe but, due to COVID-19, they have turned their venture into an online experience.
The World Storytelling Cafe allows storytellers a place to perform and to earn money now that events have been cancelled.
Blake Hutcheson has been named as the CEO of OMERS, a Canadian pension fund established to handle pension and retirement benefits for Ontarian local government employees. Blake has worked for OMERS for 10 years, first as CEO of Oxford Properties and then as Chief Pension Officer.
Pietro Morandini has joined the Italian Prime Minister’s Office as International Relations expert for the department of Technological Innovation and Digitisation. Pietro's work involves supporting the Minister for Technological Innovation and Digitisation as well as working on technology that can help combat the spread of COVID-19, and aid economic recovery.
John Raymund S. Almeda (MSc Management 2014) has been delivering online mindfulness and wellbeing sessions to help people during the COVID-19 pandemic. On June 29 he will give a talk with Arivs Academy titled “Pandemic & HR in 2020: How Strategic Should HR Become During the COVID-19 Crisis.”
Zoe Perez is a co-founder of
Telmi, an online platform connecting asylum seekers to advisers around the world. This initiative started as part of the Financial Times Global Hackathon, and hopes to help refugees with asylum claims during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Petra Costa and Joanna Natasegara's film 'The End of Democracy' was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Documentary category. Their documentary explored Brazil's democratic history and what is happening to it under the government of Jair Bolsonaro.
Karen Pierce has been named as the UK's new Ambassador to the US. She will be the first woman to hold the position. Karen's previous roles include Director-General Political at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Duty Permanent Representative to the UN in New York.
Philip Barton has been announced as the next British High Commissioner to India. Philip's career in the civil service and diplomacy began in the the late 80s when he was the Third Secretary in Caracas. More recently, he was he Director General, Consular and Security for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
Lynne Katzmann has been inducted into the Senior Living Hall of Fame for her work in senior housing development. Lina Ahmed and Maheen Adamjee have founded Dot & Line, which provides an online space where female tutors can deliver after-school education from their homes. The company recently received investment from the entrepreneur Zeeshan Shah.
Aashna Singh has co-founded a start-up called MoooFarm which provides facial recognition technology for use on cows. This will help farmers with identifying diseases in their livestock and thus improving the health of their herds. The project has also won a $30,000 price grant from the World Bank's Agriculture Insuretech Innovation Challenge.

Kimarli Fernando has been appointed as Tourism chief. She will be the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau. Since leaving LSE, Kimarli has become a Barrister-at-Law with Lincon's Inn and has worked in the finance industry.
Dr Mujtaba Piracha has been appointed as Pakistan's ambassador/permanent representative to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva. Since graduating from LSE, Dr Piracha has completed a PhD with the Institute of Development Studies and has worked as a Commissioner for Lahore and an Additional Chief Secretary in Punjab.
Colin Coulson-Thomas has been selected as a Fellow of the World Academy of Productivity Science. The Fellows form a global community of people who have committed significant portions of their lives to helping raise the living standards of people across the globe through productivity enhancement.
Lisa Quest has been listed by Heroes as one of the top 100 female executives of 2019. Lisa is a Partner and Co-Head of Economic Crime Risk with Oliver Wymen where she encourages programmes that increase gender diversity, such as setting gender balance targets for senior teams.
Senator Marielle Smith was elected to the Australian Senate in the 2019 federal election to represent South Australia. Her first speech, given on Wednesday 11 September, focused on child poverty and inequality.
Mohammed Mohsin has spent much of his life working as a diplomat for Bangladesh, with his greatest achievement being the Peace Agreement between the Philippines Government and Moro Muslim Revels. Mohammed is currently serving as a Senior Fellow at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies and as a Governor of the University of Asia Pacific.

Jeffrey Golden has won the American Bar Association International Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was “in recognition of his sustained and outstanding service in the field of international law”. Jeffrey Golden currently works for 3 Hare Court where he is the Joint Head of Chambers.
David Woodward is celebrating his 50th anniversary to the practice of law in Florida as a member of The Florida Bar. He is also admitted to practice in Oklahoma and Texas, as well as the United States District, Appeals and Supreme Court.

Jennifer Voigt Kaplan has written an award winning children's book, Crushing the Red Flowers. The book, which will be released in November 2019, is about two boys - one Jewish and one in the Hitler Youth - at the time of Kristallnacht.
Professor Colin Coulson-Thomas has received the Energy and Environment Foundation’s 2019 Global Excellence Award in Renewable Energy for his “vision, leadership and outstanding contribution and for demonstrating excellence in the Renewable Energy Sector”.
Ed Bayes has received a Fulbright Award to study a Masters in Design Engineering at Harvard University. Since graduating from LSE, where he was a recipient of the Cato Stonex Scholarship, Ed has worked in policy, law, anthropology and the arts. He will now explore solutions to some of the healthcare and environmental challenges he observed while monitoring hospitals and prisons for the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone as part of LSE Anthropology Outreach.
Salomon Lupo, Vladyslava Korol and Jingjin He achieved third place in the International Quant Championship, a global quantitative finance competition. Their team, "LSE 4 Life" continuously scored high on the UK leaderboard and impressed the judges with their knowledge and approach to building mathematical models.
Theo Sotiriou has been featured in the first Forbes 30 Under 30 list for Greece. A graduate in Management Information Systems and Digital Innovation, he won the LSE Generate entrepreneurship competition in 2017 and was a finalist in the LSE Entrepreneur of the Year competition. The Rockefeller Foundation names Rajiv J. Shah (General Course 1994), former Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development and current member of The Rockefeller Foundation Board of Trustees, as its new president. Richard McLaren (LLM 1972) has been awarded the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, with the grade of officer. A Senior Professor of Law at the University of Western Ontario and Barrister and Solicitor with McKenzie Lake Lawyers LLP, he was one of the three members of the World Anti-doping Agency Commission to investigate allegations of state-sponsored doping in Russian sports.
Michael Hayman MBE received an honorary doctorate from the University of London at its Foundation Day celebrations. The University’s Chancellor, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, presented Michael with the University of London’s highest honour, making him Doctor of Science (Economics) honoris causa.

Arianna Espinosa Oliver and Abraham Hidalgo Mendoza were part of the team that won this year’s Geneva Challenge, an annual competition hosted by the Graduate Institute in Geneva. This year the students were asked to come up with a project on the challenges of urbanisation. Arianna and Abraham were part of the winning team which came up with the MINGA - Collective Waste Management project.

Ong Ye Kung (BSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics 1991) has been promoted from Acting Minister to Full Minister in the Government of Singapore. The Prime Minister’s Office announced that Mr. Ong would be Minister for Education and also Second Minister in the Ministry of Defence, effective from 1 November 2016.

Dr Dejan Verčič (PhD Social Psychology 2000), Professor and Head of Centre for Marketing and Public Relations at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, has been awarded the 2016 Pathfinder Award, the highest academic honor bestowed by the Institute for Public Relations Dr. Verčič was the first secretary general of the Public Relations Society of Slovenia, and the president of the European Public Relations Education and Research Association. He is a founding member of the European Communication Monitor research team and an honorary member of the Croatian Public Relations Association.
