Henrietta (known as Rita) Stephen, Alumna who improved student life at LSE, was also remembered in The Times obituaries on Wednesday 24th June 2020:

“For generations students have had a reputation for ignoring personal hygiene. Yet for some this was not a lifestyle choice. When Rita Stephen arrived at the London School of Economics in 1957 on a one-year trade union scholarship, she found that many of her fellow mature students from working-class backgrounds were unable to afford accommodation with bathrooms. In an early example of the protests that became widespread a decade later, the students, led by Stephen, agitated for showers to be installed on campus....

...The showers that she campaigned for 63 years ago are still there, in the basement of the LSE Old Building, a monument to a generation of students who were anxious to be, and smell, their best for tutorials.”
